Brian Canever is a communications strategist and writer. He has organized media and public relations campaigns for sports, higher education, nonprofit, and public diplomacy groups. As a news writer, he has written about American cage fighters, fraternity boxers, immigrant soccer players, community educators, front-line health care workers, and hundreds of local, national, and international nonprofit and higher ed leaders. Born to working class Argentinian parents in Bayonne, NJ, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Latin American and Latino studies from William Paterson University and a master’s degree in communication and information from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He now works at UT as a public relations specialist. Brian recently spent three years as a volunteer girls soccer coach for Emerald Youth Foundation, is a tnAchieves and UT Promise mentor, and is a member of Redeemer Church of Knoxville. Currently, he sits on the board of directors of Centro Hispano de East Tennessee. Away from work, Brian enjoys writing short fiction, collecting DVDs, fishing, soccer, and being bested by his wife, Haley, in CrossFit workouts and daughter, Alba, in burping contests.
